Luisa, Marquise Casati Stampa di Soncino, known mostly as Marchesa Casati, was known for wearing live snakes as jewelry and walk her pet leopards down Paris and Venice. She has been quoted saying “I want to make myself a living work of art.”
Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, and Karl Lagerfeld have been noted on creating collections based on her wardrobe and style; she even was the inspiration to the namesake fashion line, Marchesa.
Said to be the predecessor to Daphne Guinness, Luisa Casati continues to act as the muse to many in the fashion world and inspire those to push the envelope.
I wish I could of witnessed her life.
